On this page, you can apply online to study at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg.

 

Pre-study program for migrants interested in studying the arts
Artistic and Cultural Orientation

A Important Information:

  • Applications are only in the period from August 01 - September 01, 2017 possible.
  • Attendance ist free of charge. Participants have "study orientation phase" status, and will receive
    a participation document at the beginning of the program.
  • At the end of the semester, a certificate certifying successful completion of the program will be issued
    to all attendees woh have attended regularly and shown commitment to participation.
  • Participants will not be entitled to be admitted to the University.
  • Participation in the programm will have no effect on any subsequent application for a regular study
    place at the HFBK. In other words, participants will be subject to the same requirements an deadlines
    as others applying to study art at the HFBK.
  • Participants will be unable to claim a semester ticket for use on buses and trains.
  • Participants will be unable to claim student financial assistance (BAföG).

B Requirements for successful participation:

  • Demonstrating an interest in artistic and/or design issues
  • Attending the theory seminar
  • Attending two of the four artistic workshops in the subject areas of film, photography/graphic art, design and painting/sculpture
  • An A2 level or better knowledge of German is welcomed. Participation in DaF courses (B1/2 course concurrent with semester) or
    demonstration of a knowledge of German to a B2 level.

C Registration:

1st step: Filling out the online application form from August 01 to September 01, 2017
2nd step: A face-to-face application interview in the period of September 11 to September 13, 2017
Applicants will be invited to an interview by mail or by telephone following the elapsing of the online application period, a short time in advance.
3rd step: Successful candidates will be informed that they have been admitted by September 15, 2017, by mail or by telephone.

F Filling in and sending off your online application

  • Please be aware that it will only be possible to apply online between February 07 and March 07, 2017.
  • We will only be able to consider your application if it is sent to us on time.
  • You will subsequently receive an automatic confirmation of your online application, sent to the email address
    that you have provided.

G Our response to your application

  • You will be informed whether your application has been accepted or rejected via your application account.
    You will also receive your invitation to attend an interview (if applicable) via your application account.
    For this reason, please protect your access data.

Fine Arts doctorate

Applications for doctoral studies are only possible in the summer semester.
Students will apply to take the doctorate in Fine Arts through an online process, and will also submit/send written
application documents. For your application to be considered, both are required.
You are therefore requested to note the following stages of the process:

A Setting up an application account for applying online

It is only possible to set up an account for applying to take the doctorate in Fine Arts within the following registration time window:
  • From September 01 to September 30, 2017
To set up an account, please click the left menu to »Create account«.

After you have submitted your data and clicked the “Create account” button, you will receive an email with access data
for online application. Because it depends upon your email provider, some hours may elapse before you receive the email!

B Filling in and sending off your online application

  • Please be aware that it will only be possible to apply online between September 1 and September 30, 2017.
  • We will only be able to consider your application if it is sent to us on time.
  • You will subsequently receive an automatic confirmation of your online application, sent to the email address
    that you have provided.

C Submission/ sending of application documents

  • Your online application can only be considered in combination with the submission/sending of written documents!!!
  • The documents can be personally submitted between the 1st of September and the 30th of September 2017.
    Acceptance time: during the opening times of the porter's lodge at the HFBK main building,
    Lerchenfeld 2, 22081 Hamburg
  • If you wish to send your application documents to us by post, please use the following address:

  • Both the online application and the written application documents must reach the HFBK Hamburg
    on the 30th of September 2017 at the latest (the date of the postmark).
  • Owing to the large number of applications, it is not possible for us to return your documents to you.
    Please submit only copies. If you are admitted to the PhD study course, we will require
    authenticated copies of the documents.
  • Documents that are received late or subsequently handed in cannot be considered!

D Our response to your application

  • You will subsequently be notified as to whether your application has been accepted or rejected –
    and, if necessary, you will be sent a request for re-submission - through your application account.
    For this reason, please protect your access data.

Bachelor Fine Arts

A Setting up an application account for applying online

It is only possible to set up an account for applying to take the Bachelor Fine Arts within the following registration time window:
  • February to March, 2018

for online application. Because it depends upon your email provider, some hours may elapse before you receive the email!

B Filling in and sending off your online application

  • Please be aware that it will only be possible to apply online between February 02, 2018 and March 06, 2018, 15.00.
  • We will only be able to consider your application if it is sent to us on time.
  • You will subsequently receive an automatic confirmation of your online application, sent to the email address
    that you have provided.

C Submission/sending of application portfolio

  • Your online application can only be considered for approval if you have also submitted a portfolio !!!
  • Application portfolios can be submitted in person on the 2nd, 3rd and 6th March 2018.
  • Acceptance times: from 9.30 to 12.00 and from 13.30 to 15.00.
  • During this period, the relevant rooms will be marked by signs. We wish to warn applicants
    that they should expect to have to wait for a long time, especially on the final day.
  • If you wish to send your portfolio to us by post, please send it to the following address:

  • If you are sending from outside Germany, we strongly recommend that you do not write any amount

You will only be able to create an account for the application "Fine Arts teaching qualification (BA)" during the following registration period:
  • February to March, 2018

email containing the information that you will need to log in to apply online.
For users of all email providers, this may take some hours!
