On this page, you can apply online to study at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg.

 

Pre-study program for migrants interested in studying the arts
Artistic and Cultural Orientation

A Important Information:

  • Applications are only in the period from February 07 to February 28, 2018 possible.
  • Attendance ist free of charge. Participants have "study orientation phase" status, and will receive
    a participation document at the beginning of the program.
  • At the end of the semester, a certificate certifying successful completion of the program will be issued
    to all attendees woh have attended regularly and shown commitment to participation.
  • Participants will not be entitled to be admitted to the University.
  • Participation in the programm will have no effect on any subsequent application for a regular study
    place at the HFBK. In other words, participants will be subject to the same requirements an deadlines
    as others applying to study art at the HFBK.
  • Participants will be unable to claim a semester ticket for use on buses and trains.
  • Participants will be unable to claim student financial assistance (BAföG).

B Requirements for successful participation:

  • Demonstrating an interest in artistic and/or design issues
  • Attending the theory seminar
  • Attending two of the four artistic workshops in the subject areas of film, photography/graphic art, design and painting/sculpture
  • An A2 level or better knowledge of German is welcomed. Participation in DaF courses (B1/2 course concurrent with semester) or
    demonstration of a knowledge of German to a B2 level.

C Registration:

1st step: Filling out the online application form from February 07 to February 28, 2018
2nd step: A face-to-face application interview in the period of March 12 to March 14, 2018
Applicants will be invited to an interview by mail or by telephone following the elapsing of the online application period, a short time in advance.
3rd step: Successful candidates will be informed that they have been admitted by March 16, 2018, by mail or by telephone.

F Filling in and sending off your online application

  • You will subsequently receive an automatic confirmation of your online application, sent to the email address
    that you have provided.

G Our response to your application

  • You will be informed whether your application has been accepted or rejected via your application account.
    You will also receive your invitation to attend an interview (if applicable) via your application account.
    For this reason, please protect your access data.

Bachelor Fine Arts

A Setting up an application account for applying online

It is only possible to set up an account for applying to take the Bachelor Fine Arts within the following registration time window:
  • February 01 to March 05, 2018

After you have submitted your data and clicked the “Create account” button, you will receive an email with access data
for online application. Because it depends upon your email provider, some hours may elapse before you receive the email!

B Filling in and sending off your online application

  • Please be aware that it will only be possible to apply online between February 01, 2018 and March 05, 2018, 15.00.
  • We will only be able to consider your application if it is sent to us on time.
  • You will subsequently receive an automatic confirmation of your online application, sent to the email address
    that you have provided.

C Submission/sending of application portfolio

  • Your online application can only be considered for approval if you have also submitted a portfolio !!!
  • Please write your tracking number on the outside of your portfolio.
  • The application portfolio must reach the HFBK by 16.00 h on 5th March 2018 at the latest.
    If you submit your portfolio by mail, please send it not earlier than on the 1st February, 2018.
    We cannot consider applications submitted late and/or by email, or documents submitted at a later stage.

  • For portfolios sent from foreign countries: Please claim »no commercial value« on the customs sticker
    in order to avoid delay!
  • The receipt of your portfolio at HFBK will be indicated in your CampusNet account.
  • Personal submission
    On 1st, 2nd and 5th of March, 2018, application portfolios can be dropped off personally.
    They will be accepted between 9.30 and 12.00 and between 13.30 and 16.00 h.
    The address is HFBK Hamburg, Lerchenfeld 2. The rooms for submission will be indicated by signs during this period.
    We would like to point out that applicants should expect to wait a long time, especially on the final day.

D Our response to your application

    at the HFBK Hamburg (please bring the notification of acceptance or rejection).
  • Pick-up dates:
    Wednesday, 11. April – Saturday, 14. April 2018
    Wednesday, 18. April – Saturday, 21. April 2018
    Wednesday, 16. May – Saturday, 19. May 2018
  • Portfolios that have not been picked up by the last date will be deleted.
  • If you send any other person to pick up your portfolio, they must bring a written mandate and their identity card.
  • Application portfolios will not be sent back by mail!

A Setting up an application account for applying online

You will only be able to create an account for the application "Fine Arts teaching qualification (BA)" during the following registration period:
  • February 01 to March 05, 2018

Erasmus+ and Swiss-European Mobility Exchange

A Setting up an application account for applying online

It is only possible to set up an account for applying to take the Erasmus+ Program and Swiss-European Mobility Exchange
within the following registration time window:

  • March 07 to April 30, 2018

for online application. Because it depends upon your email provider, some hours may elapse before you receive the email!

B Filling in and sending off your online application

  • Please be aware that it will only be possible to apply online between March 07 and April 30, 2018.
  • We will only be able to consider your application if it is sent to us on time.
  • You will subsequently receive an automatic confirmation of your online application, sent to the email address
    that you have provided.

C Submission/sending of application portfolio

  • Your online application can only be considered for approval if your home university has submitted
    your nomination before and if you have also submitted a portfolio!
  • Your portfolio should contain photocopies - nor originals, as unsuccessful applications will be destroyed -
    of artistic work completed by yourself during the past 2 years.
    The portfolio should contain about 15 works. Please do not send any 3D works
    (send photoprints or a DVD instead).
  • If you wish to send your portfolio to us by post, please send it to the following address:

  • If you are sending from outside Germany, we strongly recommend that you do not write any amount
    on the "Wert der Sendung" (Value of Consignment“) tariff sticker. This avoids additional costs and formalities.
  • All documents must have been received by the HFBK Hamburg on the 30th April 2018
    at the latest.
  • Documents received or handed in late cannot be considered for approval!
